A Citilab-Cornellà project, SporTIC falls under one of the lines of research of the Social Media Lab. The project is based on the the hypothesis that citizens can innovate, specifically through the use of new social media.
During the pilot phase of the SporTIC project, the lab is working with with players from the athletic club Fontsanta-Fatjó, who use social media as a tool to promote their activities within the field.
SporTIC is based on three different working methods:
Design Thinking
Participants have to define, investigate, devise, prototype, select, apply and learn how to create an online television channel for their athletic organisation.
Media Literacy
SporTIC focuses on media literacy or communication education as it relates to the process of accessing, analysing, evaluating and creating media messages in a variety of ways. The goal is to encourage young athletes and citizens to question what they see and read in the media, providing them with tools to use social media critically and thus transforming the process of media consumption into an active and critical pursuit.
Constructivism
Rather than learning these concepts passively, participants actively build their own online TV channel. The method combines theory with trial-and-error and the correcting of mistakes, which allows participants to learn in an active, hands-on manner.
