We decided to develop this project upon discovering that a significant number of people wanted to know what Citilab is, what we do and how.
This led us to consider a different kind of tourism, built around the knowledge that is generated in the region and capable of offering both an alternative and a complement to the current tourism model based on sunshine, beaches and the exploitation of artistic and cultural heritage.
In this new approach, Knowledge Centres as well as other kinds of institutions could become tourist attractions, something that is unlikely to happen at this time and under the current tourism model.

The project will develop and research the basic elements of this concept and the business model that would have to be put into place to ensure its sustainability.
All of this must be based on the premise that the knowledge demonstrated to tourists is based on the past and the region, but with the awareness and the ability to predict what will happen in the future and how this transformation is being carried out.

While creating this model, we will also explore the sustainability of this form of tourism, which is also based on citizens and the people involved working with the institutions to create the product. Furthermore, the tourist would have a much more active and collaborative relationship with the region, which could last for a long time.
We believe that a tourism model based on these premises, which can be exploited without the need of attracting masses of people to the region, supported by already existing infrastructures and based on completely innovative concepts represents a potential source of economic prosperity that is worth investigating.
